ABOUT THE AUTHOR
(1913- 1974)  Miriam Young is the author of many children's books and stories.  She also wrote about her mother's youth in San Francisco in the 1880's in No Place for Mitty and her parents' theatrical careers in Mother Wore Tights.  She wrote a series of picture books with Robert Quackenbush as illustrator as well as some novels for juvenile readers.

LOGANBERRY LEGACY
I had no idea Miriam Young wrote so many books.  Her If a Drove a Truck series is charming, and her memories of her parents fascinating, but it's Miss Suzy that is the most requested title here.  And the good news is:  Miss Suzy has been reprinted by Purple House Press and is now available!

Hey, where's my favorite title?

Out-of-print books are harder to stock than new books, and some are hard to find, period.  If the title you are seeking is not listed for sale above, that probably means that I am currently out of stock.  However, I am always on the lookout for books, and will gladly quote you when I do find your coveted book. To add your name to my Wants Files, simply fill out a Book Request Form and I will e-mail you when I have a copy in stock.  Thanks.

SELECTED STUMPERS & REQUESTS
The third book I am looking for was my absolute favourite when I was a little girl. I am not sure if it was in an anthology or if it was its own story book. The book is about a little squirrel named Suzy who llived in an oak tree. Everyday she collected nuts and sang this little song "Oh I love to cook, I love to bake, I think I'll make an acorn cake." The mean grey(?) squirrels attacked her because they wanted her acorn cake, but a collection of toy soldiers from a nearby attic saved her.

A story about a squirrel (possibly named "Mrs. Squirrel") who has trouble with a nutcake-stealing bear (possibly named Bruno).

I have three triplet nieces who are 4 and feed a family of squirrels everyday. I remember this book as a child and I am now looking for it for them!!

children's book about a squirel who lives in an attic
in a dollhouse. and a bunch of red squirels come and try to take the house away

Please find this book for me.  My heart breaks that my parents gave it away when I left for college.  Now, I'm a children's book editor and, as such, this most memorable work would mean so much to me.

The book is about a squirrel named Miss Suzy.  The cover is orange, with Miss Suzy sleeping in her bed in a tree.

I think this one was about the size of the Goldens.  It was about a squirrel (Miss Suzy) who lived in the attic of a house.  I can't remember the storyline, but it was reassuring to my children about the "night noises" they heard or imagined, and I'd love to be able to read it to my granddaughter now.

Would like to add this to my collection and have had a hard time locating one since it is out of print.

YOU ROCK!!! I could never be a bookseller (or sell antiques) because I'd never make any money.    Yes, I absolutely have to buy Miss Suzy...
Hi!  I just purchased Miss Suzy and two of the Cranberryport stories, and I'm ECSTATIC!!!  My mother flipped.  Thank you so much!

the book I purchased, Miss Suzy, is a birthday gift for my nineteen year old daughter, Molly. It was her favorite book when she was a child and now that she is a freshman at college I thought she might like to have it as a reminder of home. I look forward to receiving Miss Suzy and seeing Molly's face when she opens her gift on her birthday.

I read the MISS SUZY book I bought from you to my 3 year old niece, and ended up repeating the process two more times back to back before she'd go to bed!  Ha!

My wife and I both remember Suzy Squirrel from our
childhood...we just don't know who wrote it and what the actual book name was.  I would love to find a copy and surprise my wife.

It was a picture book about a female squirrel who moved into a new place (possible a doll house or a tree) and cleans it. A spider is in it and the squirrel scares it away.

This was my best freinds favorite book as a child. She is turning 30 this year and I thought it would make a great birthday gift. I have no idea how much
it would be. Please e-mail me a price - I'd like a book in good condition. Thanks -

The main character in the book is a little boy named Henry.  As one might guess from the title, Five Pennies to Spend, he has five pennies to spend.  If my memory serves correctly, it is a Little Golden Book or a book of similar size from the early to mid-1950's.

A friend read 5 Pennies to Spend to my son's first-grade class and he came home talking about how nice it was.  My friend says this book is so good that she can't believe it's out of print.  I think it is an old-timey story about generosity and the beauty of sharing.

I think the gray squirrel is the good one, the red squirrels are bad...I remember the squirrel hiding in a dollhouse and using toy soldiers to help him fight off the bad squirrels ...

My children and I love Miss Suzy.  Miriam Young is awesome, and Arnold Lobel is as well.  We would love other books by Miriam Young.  Is Miss Suzy's
Easter Surprise still in print?

Jellybeans for Breakfast!  Many of my friends and I fondly remember this book and would love to share it with our daughters.  Unfortunately it is no longer in print and poor condition used copies start at $80.

I hope this is one more desperate plea among many more to bring Miss Suzy by
Miriam Young back into print.  It is a delightful book.  My 5 year-old daughter enjoys it today as I did back in the 1960's when I was her age. Almost any book illustrated by Arnold Lobel is too charming NOT to be available to young readers today.

Miriam Young, Miss Suzy. I was given Miss Suzy by my neighbor years ago and I used to read it to my 3 year old granddaughter.  I loved the book and my granddaughter would ask me to read it again, and again, and again, and so I would. I lost the book somewhere along the way and must have it again for myself (I'm 63) and for my new granddaughter who is 5 months old.  The story is about Suzy Squirrel who first found her way to an attic and met toy soldiers and then made a home in a tree where bad squirrels destroyed her home.

Miriam Young, Miss Suzy. My mom used to read this story to me every night before bed, I think I almost drove her crazy asking over and over "can you read it again!". She always read it, even if she was tired. I lost my old copy somewhere over the years, my guess is I read it until nothing was left of the book. The story is still clear in my mind. When ever I think of "miss Suzy" I feel like a little girl again. I remember cuddling up to my mom while she read the book over and over without rushing through. I have a little girl of my own now, I can't wait to buy the book. I'm so  excited to read it to her. She too can experience one of the best childrens novels ever published just as I did.

Miriam Young, Miss Suzy. I recently came across this loveable children's book I had forgotten about.  I purchaed the 40th annivsary book and have read it to my two boys they just loved it.  I found Miss Suzy's Easter Surprise and I am desperately trying to find a reasonabley good condition copy of Miss Suzy's Birthday.  I am so happy I found Miss Suzy again!!!

Five Pennies To Spend.  My grandma used to read this book to me. I've treasured it as an adult now that she has passed on. I've recently become a new mother and read the story to my son. I hope that he someday will treasure it too.

For years now, I've been looking for a copy of one of my favorite Miriam Young books, that I read as a child, for my granddaughter... Jellybeans for Breakfast. I've seen for the past few years how high the sales are going for just the few that are still out there, and kept wondering why with the book being so popular still, that someone didn't have it re-circulated/published again. My mission for the day, was to try and track down Ms Young and ask her that question, not knowing that she'd passed on. :-/ While searching, I noticed that one of the Miss Suzy books has been re-published. I'm not sure if you are the person I should ask, but I thought having looked at the loganberry website, you'd be the perfect one to ask...Is there anyone out there who plans to re-publish Jellybeans for Breakfast??? I have a feeling
that once word got out, that it would be flying off the shelves... purchased by new fans and classic fans like me as well.

Has anyone ever heard of a children's book from the early sixties about a lady squirrel who lives in a tree house and soldiers come and make her leave.  This is about all I remember about this book and it comes back to haunt me now and again.  I'd love to know if anyone has ever heard of it and could let me know the title and maybe author.  I think my mother may have gotten it from one of those children's book clubs you could sign up for. Thank you.

This was a one of my most favorite and cherished books as a child that I loved listening my mom read to me at bedtime. Unfortunately, the book was lost over the past few years, and I would like to get another copy of the book, but it is out of print. Please help!

I used to read this book to my children in late 60's early 70's, and I believe I aquired the book through Parent's Magazine. One of their selected readings. Along with "Donkey, Donkey" I cannot find these children's stories in any of our bookstores, and I cannot remember the authors name. Any help would be appreciated.

I'm looking for two copies of a book called Miss Suzy's Treehouse circa 1964.  It's about a squirrel and her neat treehouse.  My brother's children destroyed the book so I don't even have a publisher.  It's really a great book.  It may have the same publisher as Old Black Witch.  Thanks for your help!

I'm looking for Miss Susie Squirrel.  I do not know if that is the correct title.  The book is about a gray squirrel Suzie that lives in a nice treehouse but some mean red squirrels raid her house and she flees to a dollhouse.  It was in the early 70's.  I would love to have it to give to my twin sister on our...gulp...30th b-day in March 2000... thanks for your help...

I'm looking for a book and can't remember the author or title.  It's about a squirrel who gets into an attic and discovers a dollhouse which it  lives in.  It may or may not leave, I can't recall.  Any help would be
appreciated.

I cannot remember the author or exact title but, I do know the book is about a squirrel who lives in a tree house. Some mean squirrels come by and trash her place so she goes into an old house. In the attic she finds an old doll house that she makes her home, and some toy soldiers who protect her??????? HELP!!!!!!!

Harriett, you have been sent from Heaven!!!!!!!! I have searched and searched and searched for this favorite book for years!!!!!! I began looking on-line
when I got my puter, about 3 yrs. ago, and have had no luck. I was about to give up the other day, after three hours and a bazillion web sites when I came to your page and said, "This is the last one!" I do not know what happened to my copy, but it was worn out from reading!! Thank you so much, just looking at the pictures you have of it sent chills up my arms!!
Hey, how much for the trio? I never knew there was a series. I'd like to enjoy the other two for the first time!! Again, thank you so much. P.S.. I will tell everyone about your site, and I've already put it in my fav's!!

Sold.  How should I pay the balance?  If you come across another copy, I would like to purchase it for my twin sister.

Ooh, another good one about a fairly independent woman who lives in a tree and finds that entertaining soldiers on leave pays dividends.  (Just kidding.) I'm proud to say I still own my original copy of this one
too. I never knew there were sequels!

Thanks to your list I think I found the other book my daughter loved Miss  Suzie at least I hope so..... about a squirrel.  Thank you for helping all of us find our childhoods!

I am absolutely thrilled to have found this web-site.  I
ordered Miss Suzy by e-bay the other day and can not wait until it comes!  Having found you, I have now put in other requests for books fondly remembered.   The Parents' Press books were our "constants" grwoing up, until of course our parents disposed of them!  I look forward to reliving these fond memories with my students and own children.  Thanks!

It's great when you can share a childhood memory with your children. My 4 and 6 year old like to hear voices with the characters and make up some of their own.  They also wish they could live in a dollhouse.

To the woman who is "haunted" by the story about Miss
Suzy's treehouse, who kept her treehouse neat, I, too, am looking for the same book.  All I can remember is Miss Suzy sweeping out her treehouse home.  Unfortunately, I've been trying to find a book called "Mrs. Squirrel's Treehouse" (had totally forgotten the "Miss Suzy" part.

mirium young, So What if it's Raining! This book was my absolute favorite, and the only one that I kept in my possession over the years. As a child I remember reading it until I memorized it, and it really taught me to expand my imagination. I have kept it in prominent display, and it never seems to age. A wonderful book filled with clever storytelling and creative fun. And now, on those rainy days, I can say...So What if it's Raining!

Miriam Young, 5 pennies to spend. This is the year 2003 and this story is timeless! I bought this simple golden classic at a garage sale and it's priceless to me! My son loves it and has me read it to him all the time. it teaches good values,to share, get for your friends who may be less forunate and just a good book to share with your child. I wish everybody could read it.

Miriam Young, Miss Suzy. Last night I was just reading Miss Suzy to my 6 and 2 year old and it still captivates the imagination. I used to play Miss Suzy in the tree in my front yard as a child.  In re-reading this special book I realized how much Miss Suzy formed my life--I too love being a homemaker and getting my house in order! On a whim I searched the web this morning to see what info might be available on the author and here was your website. It's been fun reading these comments.  I too received many books from the parents press book club as a child.  My Mom never throws out books so I still have all our original copies of Miss Suzy, Miss Twiggley's Tree, Donkey-Donkey, Henrietta's Hat and many more. Thanks for sharing these books with others.

Miriam Young, Miss Suzy. Thank you for this page.  I am a 40 year old man who has (for whatever reason) been stumped for years on the Mrs. Squirrel book I remember my grandmother reading to me as a small child.  Why do so many think it's Mrs. Squirrel instead of Mrs. Suzy is puzzling to me.  I could have Googled "Mrs. Suzy" years ago and found the book I was searching for but I kept searching for "Mrs. Squirrel".  Now I'll find it and be able to buy it for my new grandchild.  :)

Miriam Young, Jellybeans for Breakfast.  In my whole life I have never met anyone who knew of the book "Jellybeans for Breakfast."  This was my favorite book as a child and I can't believe I've actually found this title, even if it's just an honorable mention.  I would be very interested if anyone has a copy to sell.
