Pop-ups are indeed an art form unto themselves.  From the early victorian movable books, to slotties and pop-ups come some famous artist names: Meggendorffer, Kubasta, Sabuda.  Now known as paper engineers, these playful and artful books range in style and techniques, as well as artistry and price.  I have some of the better pop-ups from my current inventory featured here.  You really can't scan the three-dimensional effects, so until I get a digital camera, I've taken pictures of two-dimensional covers and pictures so as not to damage the book.  Feel free to ask questions.

How to order

This is a self-made website by little old me, and while it might be big, it is not sophisticated.  The little buy icon icon takes you to a generic order form where you can type in the author, title, price, and indicate whether you would like to send me a check or PayPal payment.  I will confirm availability via e-mail, and once I've received payment, I'll ship the book.  It's that easy.  If you have questions,  please don't hesitate to ask  via email.

Condition Grades

There's a standard bookseller vocabulary, with terms like Fine, Very Good, Good and Poor to assess condition (to see these terms defined, click on the link above).  Most of my books are in Very Good or better condition, and I tend to overemphasize their flaws so that any surprise is a pleasant one.  Feel free to ask questions, and if the book isn't in the condition described, you may return it for a full refund.

Wants Lists

If I don't have the book you seek in stock, I will retain your book search in my wants files and email you when I do have a copy for sale. If you don't hear back from me immediately, that probably means I don't have a copy right now.  But fear not,  I keep extensive files and never stop looking....  so send me your request;  you've got nothing to lose!

THE JOLLY JUMP-UPS SEE THE CIRCUS, Jingling Bros., The Greatest Show.   McLoughlin Bros., Springfield, Mass., 1944.  This is the finest-condition Jolly Jump-Ups pop-up book I have ever seen, with all 6 pop-ups in perfect condition. There is a bit of wear to edge tips and a small piece of paper missing from front cover, but really this is a better than very good book.  $75

pop-up book published in 1961 by the great Kubasta:

SNOW WHITE, Bancroft & Co publishers, Westminster, London, 1961, paper engineering by Artia, Prague.  All brilliant full color, with 8 pop-ups and movable front cover.  There is a piece missing from 3rd pop-up, but the others are all fine.  Some wear on edges and front movable tab, but mostly in very good condition.  $75.
