367C: When the Sweets Come Alive

I remember this book from childhood, where on one page there is this bakery where it is either run by a witch or vampire and the treats are alive. Like the devil dog cakes are actual devil dogs with a tail and wings. The lady fingers are actual fingers. It was cute and cartoony and these treats were all in a glass case like a real bakery. It was definitely an elementary book like a beginner book. I must have been reading it in the 1990’s. I can’t recall the overall theme of the book but vividly remember this particular page. I think the overall theme must be fantastical or magical, maybe Halloween but I can’t remember a title or author. Please help me.

357E: Female Protagonist, Brooding Vampire

I’m trying to find a book I read in the late 1990s, early 2000s. The parts of the plot I remember are as follows:
1. The main character is a female journalist who at one point is cornered in an alley by a would-be rapist but manages to escape. I think she let the attacker fondle her breasts before kicking him in the groin and escaping.
2. The vampire love interest is brooding, and at one point watches the heroine from outside her house. I have a vague memory of him being described as wearing a long leather jacket.
3. I think there’s some kind of crime element? Like she’s a crime reporter or something like that.
4. The journalist lives alone and has a pet cat.
I think it was a paperback, and it had a film noir sort of vibe to my pre-teen self. I’ve thoroughly scoured the vampire genre on https://smartbitchestrashybooks.com/, but can’t find something that seems to fit.

355G: Vampire Horror Anthology

The book I am looking for is a horror anthology of Vampire fiction published a minimum of eleven years ago, maximum twenty-one. The book itself contains two stories I remember, one better than the other. The first is about a cantor at a failing synagogue who is contacted by a lapsed Jewish man whose son has fallen victim of a vampire. The cantor is called upon to help, and tries several methods which do not work, and it comes about that only the father is Jewish, not the son, and the son has neither converted nor done his bat mitzvah. The cantor then does an emergency conversion, then an emergency mitzvah, and the vampire is exorcised. The story is set in the modern-day, maybe in the 90s.
The second story I remember less. It is told in the first person by a farmer on a failing farm about how a farm girl he hires (who he believes is from Pennsylvania) ends up in a sexual relationship with the farmer and his son. As the relationships continue, the farm fails, because “the plowing didn’t get done because we were plowing her”. It is a very explicit story and ends with a wiser townswoman realizing the girl is a vampire and stealing her. The man telling the story realizes the girl is from Transylvania, not Pennsylvania, and that is when the shoe drops for the reader that the girl was eating these two men slowly, hence why they were getting thinner and hungrier as time went on while she stayed plump and beautiful.
I read this book when I was about sixteen, and the story about the Rabbi stuck with me. It is the piece I’m most interested in finding, but sadly the book seems to be lost to me. I apologize for the explicit nature of the second story, again, I read the book at sixteen and it was the only story of its type I had engaged with at that time, therefore it has stuck in my head.

332F: Vampire With A Toothache

I believe this was a book that had a few different stories, but there is one in particular I am remembering vividly. The characters were anthropomorphic animals I THINK. The story I remember clearly is a little vampire/Dracula with a toothache. He has one of those handkerchiefs tied around his head and his fangs are very big. He doesn't want to go to dentist but eventually he knows he has to. So he does and sees its not a big deal! PLEASE Help! I feel like I'm making this up but I remember the illustrations so clearly!

321A: Halloween Tales For Kids

I had this book when I was a kid, so around 15 years ago, and it might have been a few years old by then. I can’t remember the title, but here’s what I do remember. It was large. Not just thick, but tall and wide. (I was a kid though, so it might be smaller than I’m remembering.) The one I had was hardcover. The cover might have been dark blue/purple/green, but I don’t remember what was actually on it. It had full-page illustrations, I think through most or all of the book. It had several stories about Halloween characters for kids: – King Neptune was lonely, so he became friends with the ghost of a whale or dolphin. – The ghost of a castle was rambunctious and scared people off from his treasure. – Two witches lived near each other and didn’t get along. – A vampire wanted to act in his school play, and his vampire parents attended in the end. Please help! I love this book, and I would really like to have it for my kids someday! Thank you!
