238B: Big Book of Bedtime Stories

I think it was called “Big book of Bedtime stories”. It would have been published in the early 80s or older. One of the stories was about an alternate world where people walked there hands instead of there feet. Other stories about magic. Yellow.

Two possible titles are Mary Marguerite Turner: The Big Book of Bedtime Stories (1968) and Tibor Gergely’s Great Big Book of Bedtime Stories (1972).

I am looking for this book, too. Ann, neither of those options are it. I think the book was written in the U.K. It is a thick, hardcover book, yellow cover with tiny black polka dots. It has a lot of slightly bizarre short stories in it, many with magical elements, but none of the traditional fairy tales.

Yep it was yellow with black dots. A very weird set of stories in it. I looked up Enid Blyton but I didn’t find anything that matched. It was a very large thick book.

I now wonder if you may be amalgamating two books by Enid Blyton?. Blyton wrote a book called ‘The Magic Faraway Tree’ or similar title, where the characters visit different magic lands, in one of which everyone walked on their hands instead of their feet. She also wrote at least one collection of ‘Bedtime Stories’.

I remember this book. Been looking for it for ages with no luck. Would love to read it to my son. Did it have an elephant on the front too?

Could it be “The Big Storybook for Bedtime” published by Cliveden Press in Manchester in 1970 and 1984? Check worldcat.org and bookfinder.com using “big storybook bedtime cliveden” as the search term; a bookseller might be willing to send you a photo or scan of the cover…

Is it ‘My Biggest Bedtime Book Ever’?

My partner has had a similar search and we found that, which she thinks might be what she’s been looking for. (Waiting for a copy to arrive in the post now)

The book came today, and it’s 100% what my partner was looking for. Hopefully it’s the same one you’re looking for. There is a story called upside down land, where they’re walking on their hands and an tum tum land with a train taking them to a land of sweets.

I may be looking for this book too. Same book for sure just not sure if I need it yet. My sister borrowed my copy and may have gotten rid of it. How would I order?

    Thanks!
