Not really similar but possible: a boy discovered that in his (friend’s? aunt’s?) garden, once you wash your eyes with water from the dolphin fountain, you can interact with the shadows who live there. Betty Brock, The Shades.
Maybe Court of the Stone Children, by Eleanor Cameron. Another possibility, (although the main Character is a boy, not a girl) is The Shades, by Betty Brock.

Is it the enchanted Castle by E Nesbitt? That has an overgrown garden with marble statues that come alive, and there’s a princess who lives there and some kids who discover it.
