Loganberry Books was established in November 1994 by Harriett Logan. We are an independently owned and operated bookstore featuring carefully selected new, used and rare books. Some of the strengths of our collection include children’s and illustrated books, women’s history and literature, leatherbound and modern first editions, and fine and performing arts. Our browsable store contains well over 100,000 volumes for both readers and collectors.

The shop is located on Larchmere Boulevard on the border of Shaker Heights and Cleveland Ohio alongside many great antique shops and art galleries (directions & map). We're just a block north of Shaker Square.
Originally sharing space with Dede Moore Oriental Rugs, Loganberry has undergone several growth spurts. In 1997, we annexed the adjacent storefront, and in September 2003, we left the rugs behind and moved into our own building down the street, thereby tripling our space and available inventory. See photos!
So, what’s with the name Loganberry? It's owner Harriett Logan's old collegiate nickname. Harriett's mother is also involved with the business as a book scout and buyer, thus the family name seemed appropriate. It's also the source for the "corporate color:" purple.
The website started early in terms of internet commerce. We had our own website back in 1995, but with a limited database to post, we started posting customer comments on a page titled I Remember That Book. This quickly grew to include customer queries the small store staff couldn't answer on a page called Stump the Bookseller. The success of this service far exceeded expectations, especially after publicity from National Public Radio and The New York Times.
Strong Bindery, a specialized service for restoring and repairing old books, joined us at the new location in 2003. Adjoining the two spaces is a clerestory garage that has been converted into the Annex Gallery, which features a monthly rotation of local artists. On our exterior east wall wall, we have a rather lovely mural.

Community and Outreach
We are independent booksellers; we are rooted to and responsive to our community. We employ locals as booksellers and sell local author and artist works, but we also keep our business dollars close to home by using local services such as printers, advertising media, maintenance, and so forth. You've probably read the stats about local business dollars having more impact and staying in their own communities longer. This is true, but there are other bonuses to local business, and things we do just because we recognize that we are a piece of the community fabric. Here are some of them.
Keep it Local
We are members of the Larchmere Merchants Association, which helps keep the businesses on Larchmere Boulevard vibrant and eccentric. There's not a single chain store on our street of old-world shops and services! We also help organize street-wide events like the Larchmere Festival (together with the Larchmere Community Association), which helps bring the community together and to broadcast its charm beyond our local streets.
Donations
Every year, schools, literary organizations, arts organizations, health organizations and other non-profits seek our help to bolster their bottom line with contributions to their fundraisers. We donate to them all.
We also feature a street-wide fundraising event in March to commemorate International Women's Day. We partnered with Seeds of Literacy, donating 20% of our sales that day, in addition to a large book donation for their students.
Streetscape
The Larchmere Merchants Association, along with the local Community Development Corporation, SHAD, and other community stakeholders, worked on a Larchmere Master Plan in 2010. This document has been crucial in pursuing projects like the Murals on Larchmere, and the huge Streetscape Renovation in 2014. We are active and vocal participants in these community projects.
Recycling
We are masters of recycling. Not only do we sell used books, a form of upcycling itself, but we dutifully recycle every piece of cardboard, paper, glass, plastic and metal that passes through our hands. For the most part that's paper and cardboard, but there's always plenty of that. For books we decline to purchase, we make recommendations for other potential purchasers or donation recipients.

Land Acknowledgement
We want to acknowledge that Loganberry Books and our surrounding communities are located on the traditional territory of the Erie, Haudenosonee, Anishinaabek, and the Kaskaskia Peoples. This land was acquired and the people forcibly removed by the United States Government as a result of the Treaty of Greenville.
Little is known about the lost nation of the Erie People. Today, along with several other tribes, the Kaskaskia are part of The Peoria Tribe of Indians of Oklahoma. The Anishinaabek are comprised of the Potawatomi, Ojibwe and Ottawa people, currently occupying areas of Michigan, Canada, and Oklahoma.
Not only do we acknowledge those who historically lived on the land we occupy, but we acknowledge the Indigenous Peoples who call Northeast Ohio home today.
We recognize this acknowledgement as a first step and are committed to continuing to honor, support, and amplify the historical, present, and future voices of local Indigenous Peoples.
