There are thousands of folk and fairy tales.  Let me know if you want to focus on any particular theme, such as classic fairy tales by the Brothers Grimm and Hans Christian Anderson, or folk tales fromaround the world, or one particular nation/ethnicity, or tales retold by contemporary author/illustrators, or collections of tales so you have a new story to read every night.  I'm programmable.
 

Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs by the Brothers Grimm Illustrated by Nancy Burkert A classic fairy tale with classic Caldecott-winning illustrations. A must for every children's library.	Thumbeline by Hans Christian Anderson Illustrated by Lisbeth Zwerger Zwerger hails from Australia and is one of the most exciting contemporary children's illustrators.
Henny Penny by Paul Galdone Galdone has illustrated many of the famous old folk tales in a charming and humorous style.	One Fine Day by Nancy Hogrogian A Caldecott winner so familiar you probably thought the Brothers Grimm wrote it.
Favorite Fairy Tales Told in Japan by Virginia Haviland Illustrated by Carol Inouye There is, of course, a  whole series of these by nation.  Wonderful fun to read other culture's fairy tales to and compare them to the ones you already know!	Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves Illustrated by A.E. Jackson Persian fairy tales made all-too familiar by the likes of Walt Disney, but don't miss the original stories!
Dove Isabeau by Jane Yolen Illustrated by Dennis Yolen Contemporary tales that may well be classics to your children and your children's children.	Anansi the Spider by Gerald McDermott Anansi the Spider is a wise, funny, mischievous, and loveable folk hero who pops up in traditional Ashanti tales from Ghana, in West Africa.
Hansel and Gretel by James Marshall Ah yes, let a master of children's storytelling tackle a familiar tale, with his characteristic simple drawings, and wonderful sense of humor.	Jack and tahe Beanstalk by Steven Kellogg Another classic, updated and revisited by a contemporary great of children's books.
John Henry by Julius Lester Illustrated by  Jerry Pinkney A Caldecott Honor Book.  I can't help but sing the old folk song that goes along with this American legend.	Jump! The Adventures of Brer Rabbit by Joel Chandler Harris illustrated by Barry Moser Brer Rabbit is back!  Moser's illustrations capture the spunk and rebelliousness here, and Brer's indefatiable spirit.
The Little Red Hen Illustrated by Paul Galdone "Then I will do it myself."  A story of self-reliance for every ambitious youngster.	Once a Mouse... by Marcia Brown Luscious woodcuts, great characters and colors, and, of course, a moral.  A classic.
