We've declared this week a rainy day. It doesn't have much to do with the weather, but with the notion that you'll do those pesky jobs, clean that corner, or fix those books on some proverbial rainy day. The rainy day has come! Feels great to clean house! Brenda, meanwhile, is off to Disney World. Bon voyage and have fun! We've got our Mickey Mouse hats on here, and we're bouncing along to Laura Love (Brenda can't stand any music involving a heavy tempo or drum, but it helps when you're dusting). Hope the weather is good down there, or at least the right kind of weather for those January jobs.... FAMILY
OUTING Friday, December 28, 2007 Harriett That's the family at a Christmas outing on the shores of Lake Erie, with thousands of seagulls congregating. Brisk, sunny, and nice. We also visited the Rockefeller Greenhouse, which was wonderful, and open, on Christmas day. Tons of poinsettias!! Mother (Brenda) took the photographs, and so of course is missing from the portrait.
Ah, Christmas was good. Loganberry fleece sweatshirts all 'round, and books, candy, and socks. What more can a girl ask for? Top it off with the fact that mother's laptop computer survived a glass of wine on Christmas evening. Don't ask me why it was drinking, I guess it got into the holiday spirit. Mother isn't surprised that it survived, of course. But the rest of us are!
I just read Salutations, and found it very touching and wonderful. Maybe that's because I had forgotten just how great those illustrations are, and how lovely the prose reads, and how much I loved that book. I wonder if people who either never read it, or don't remember or love it, will like it as much. I think even the reduced version is a treasure. Salutations! Wit and Wisdom from Charlotte's Web, from E.B. White and Garth Williams. Hardcover. Originally $9.95, now $2.99 This, and more, are featured on our Holiday Catalog. Check it out.
Now is a good time to mention a product sold at Loganberry you may not have seen before. I'm referring to DIVINE CHOCOLATES. The bookstore proprietor has a sweet tooth, and when she discovered a particularly delicious chocolate bar produced by a fair-trade farmer-owned cooperative, she wanted to share the find, and ensure herself a continuous supply. So a small display box of Divine Chocolate bars, in milk or dark chocolate, appear on the checkout counter, and lucky customers often add one to their book and card selections. Now for the holidays we have an expanded line that includes after-dinner chocolate mints and big 3.5-ounce super bars. These are simply the BEST chocolate, and every stocking should have some. Certainly mine.
Chicago is full of great things to see, such as museums and parks. For three days, all we saw were cavernous exhibition halls built underneath Michigan Avenue, crowded with books, sellers and buyers. And, oh my, did we buy! Big fabulous art books, charming children's picture books, histories of an amazing variety of peoples, places and things, and even some bookmarks and music cd's.
We eagerly await the unwrapping sessions. Come see what we bought! Maybe we will even be willing to let some of them go. They are all very beautiful, brand new, and priced below retail. We can't wait to see them again! |
